Our Training Philosophy

At Geomorph Imaging Solutions, training is a core part of our mission. We believe that high-quality subsurface data starts with well-trained professionals who understand not only how to operate equipment, but also the physics, limitations, and best-practice workflows behind each method.

Our training programmes are designed for geophysicists, utility surveyors, engineers, archaeologists, environmental specialists, consultants, and infrastructure professionals, and combine theoretical grounding with hands-on field experience.

Our Focus

We focus on:

  • Practical competence, not just theory
  • Real-world scenarios drawn from infrastructure, environmental and archaeological projects
  • Method integration, helping trainees understand how GPR, EM locators and other tools work together
  • International standards and best practice, including PAS 128 and industry-recognised certification

Training can be delivered as open courses, bespoke in-house sessions, or project-specific workshops, in the UK, Europe, and internationally.

GPR Training

Our GPR courses cover both introductory and advanced levels, with emphasis on interpretation quality and survey design.

Topics include:

  • Fundamentals of electromagnetic wave propagation
  • Antenna selection and frequency trade‑offs
  • Survey design for utilities, archaeology, geology and civil engineering
  • Data acquisition best practices
  • Processing workflows and common pitfalls
  • Interpretation strategies and uncertainty assessment
  • Reporting standards and client communication

Courses can be tailored to specific applications such as utility detection, concrete scanning, archaeology, geomorphology, or environmental investigations.

Electromagnetic (EM) & Utility Locating Training

Electromagnetic locating remains a critical component of subsurface investigations, particularly for utility avoidance and PAS 128 surveys.

Our EM and locator training focuses on:

  • Principles of electromagnetic locating
  • Active and passive locating techniques
  • Signal distortion, coupling and interference
  • Depth estimation and accuracy limits
  • Integrating EM locating with GPR results
  • Field verification and quality control

This training is suitable for both new operators and experienced surveyors looking to improve accuracy and confidence.

GPR and EM Training

One of our key strengths is teaching method integration. We help professionals understand how to:

– Combine GPR and EM locating effectively – Reduce false positives and missed utilities – Improve confidence levels in PAS 128 classifications – Communicate uncertainty clearly to clients and stakeholders

This approach is especially valuable for complex sites where no single method is sufficient.

CSTA Global Partnership & Accredited Locator Training

We are proud to cooperate with CSTA Global, a leading international training provider in utility surveying and avoidance, to deliver accredited, industry‑recognised locator training.

Through this partnership, we offer advanced utility locator courses that combine Geomorph Imaging Solutions’ GPR expertise with CSTA Global’s globally recognised certification frameworks.

What this collaboration offers:

  • Advanced Utility Locator Training aligned with PAS 128 best practice
  • Staking University certification, recognised in the UK and internationally
  • Courses suitable for infrastructure, construction, energy, and utilities professionals
  • Strong emphasis on hands‑on field exercises and real‑world conditions

Our first joint locator training course was successfully delivered in the UK, marking an important milestone in a new long-term collaboration dedicated to raising professional standards in utility detection and subsurface risk management.

The course brought together theory and hands-on field practice, equipping participants with practical skills, best-practice methodologies, and a deeper understanding of subsurface risks in complex environments.

Building on this strong start, additional UK and international training dates are currently in development and will be announced shortly.
