02 / When to Consult

When standard GPR survey isn’t enough

Most GPR surveys run smoothly with a competent crew and standard processing. Some don’t — and the difference matters. A consulting engagement is appropriate when the site, the data, or the decision it informs is complex enough that a standard workflow carries unacceptable risk of a wrong conclusion.

Ambiguous or conflicting existing data

You have GPR data but the interpretation is unclear, internally inconsistent, or contested. A second independent interpretation — from someone with no stake in the original survey — provides a defensible resolution.

Complex geological or urban environments

Stratified subsurfaces, high-clay soils, layered legacy infrastructure, or urban contexts with multiple overlapping utilities require non-standard acquisition and processing strategies that general-purpose survey crews rarely apply.

High-stakes or regulated decisions

When a wrong conclusion carries financial, legal, safety, or regulatory consequences — construction over an undetected void, cutting through a post-tension cable, disturbing an undetected archaeological feature — the interpretation needs to meet a higher evidential standard.

Archaeological or cultural heritage sites

Non-invasive investigation of sensitive heritage sites demands methodological discipline that goes well beyond standard utility detection practice. Interpretation requires both GPR expertise and genuine understanding of the archaeological or built-heritage context.

What you actually receive

A consulting engagement with Geomorph produces outputs built for two audiences simultaneously: the technical specialist who needs to understand and scrutinise the methodology, and the decision-maker who needs a clear, usable conclusion they can act on and defend. A structured written report covering methodology, data quality assessment, interpreted findings, confidence levels, limitations, and recommendations — calibrated to the technical literacy of your team and the regulatory context of your project.

Processed and annotated data outputs

Cleaned, processed, and annotated GPR data files — B-scans, time-slices, depth-slices, and 3D amplitude maps — with interpreted features marked, referenced, and cross-linked to the written report.

Geospatial deliverables

Where applicable: georeferenced anomaly maps, CAD-compatible feature overlays, GIS layers, and plan drawings that integrate GPR findings with existing site records, utility drawings, or archaeological plans.

Uncertainty and limitation documentation

An explicit, documented assessment of what the data can and cannot confirm — covering detection limits, areas of signal attenuation, depth penetration achieved, and the conditions under which our conclusions might not hold.   • No manufacturer affiliation Having worked for three of the world’s major GPR manufacturers, we understand every platform on the market — and we are not contracted to sell or promote any of them. Our method recommendations are driven by your site, not our inventory.
