Field expertise, taught by practitioners who use it
Geomorph Imaging Solutions delivers specialist training in ground penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic (EM) locating, and applied geophysics — for professionals who need more than equipment familiarity. Our programmes combine rigorous methodological grounding with hands-on field experience drawn from real project practice.
Training is delivered as open courses, bespoke in-house sessions, and project-specific workshops, across the UK, Europe, and internationally — and is available with CSTA Global accreditation for utility locator certification.
Training that builds genuine competence
High-quality subsurface data starts with well-trained professionals who understand not just how to operate equipment, but the physics, limitations, and best-practice workflows behind each method. Our training programmes are built around that conviction — and every element of how we teach reflects it.
Practical Competence, Not Just Theory
We prioritise what participants can actually do at the end of a programme, not what they can recite. Theoretical grounding is essential — but it is always connected to how it applies in the field, on real sites, with real constraints.
Real-World Scenarios
Course materials are drawn directly from infrastructure, archaeological, environmental, and utility projects. The scenarios participants work through are not synthetic exercises — they are adapted from actual field campaigns.
Method Integration
We teach how GPR, EM locating, and complementary geophysical tools work together — not as isolated techniques. Understanding how methods interact, where they overlap, and where one compensates for the limitations of another is central to our curriculum.
International Standards & Best Practice
All programmes are aligned with current international standards, including PAS 128 for utility detection and CSTA Global certification frameworks. Where applicable, courses contribute to CPD and offer access to recognised professional certification.
Expert-Led Instruction
Our training is delivered by practitioners with direct field experience across GPR, EM, and applied geophysics — not by educators working from a manual. The insights come from work done on the kinds of projects participants are returning to.
Ongoing Support
Learning doesn’t end at the close of a course. We provide post-programme support to help participants consolidate their skills and apply them confidently — and remain available for follow-up questions as they encounter new challenges in the field.
Ground Penetrating Radar Training
Our GPR courses cover introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels — with particular emphasis on interpretation quality and survey design, the two areas where most operators have the most to gain. Courses can be tailored to specific applications including utility detection, concrete scanning, archaeology, geomorphology, and environmental investigations.
Introductory GPR
Foundation course covering GPR principles, equipment operation, basic survey design, and data quality assessment. Suitable for new operators and professionals adding GPR to their skill set.
Intermediate Survey Design
Focused on acquisition parameter optimisation, grid and transect design for different application types, field QC workflows, and choosing the right frequency for the target and ground conditions.
Advanced Interpretation
Complex data interpretation, uncertainty assessment and documentation, multi-layer subsurface scenarios, processing workflow optimisation, and reporting standards for regulated or high-stakes projects.
All GPR courses can be tailored to your specific application domain — utility detection, concrete scanning, archaeological investigation, geomorphology, or environmental survey. Tell us what your team works on and we will build the course around it.
Electromagnetic & Utility Locating Training
Electromagnetic locating remains a critical and often underestimated component of subsurface investigations — particularly for utility avoidance and PAS 128 surveys. Our EM training addresses both the technique itself and the crucial skill of integrating EM results with GPR data to produce confident, defensible utility maps.
EM Principles & Equipment
Principles of electromagnetic locating, equipment types and their capabilities, active and passive locating techniques, and when to apply each one.
Signal Behaviour & Limitations
Signal distortion, electromagnetic coupling and interference, depth estimation accuracy and its limitations, and the field conditions under which EM locating is — and is not — reliable.
GPR + EM Integration
How to combine GPR and EM results effectively — reducing false positives, eliminating missed utilities, improving PAS 128 classification confidence, and communicating uncertainty clearly to clients and stakeholders.
Field Verification & QC
Field verification workflows, quality control criteria, documentation standards for PAS 128 compliance, and the professional responsibilities that come with utility detection work.
This training is suitable for both new operators building their utility detection capability from the ground up, and experienced surveyors looking to improve accuracy, reduce claims exposure, and build confidence in complex or constrained site conditions.
CSTA Global Partnership & Accredited Locator Training
Geomorph Imaging Solutions is proud to partner with CSTA Global — a leading international training provider in utility surveying and avoidance — to deliver accredited, industry-recognised locator training that combines our GPR expertise with CSTA Global’s globally recognised certification frameworks.
Advanced Utility Locator Training
Advanced locator courses aligned with PAS 128 best practice, combining Geomorph’s GPR and geophysical interpretation expertise with CSTA Global’s internationally recognised certification and field methodology.
Staking University Certification
Participants receive Staking University certification, recognised in the UK and internationally — a credential that demonstrates professional competence in utility detection and subsurface risk management to clients and employers.
Hands-On Field Exercises
Strong emphasis on practical field work under real-world conditions — not just classroom instruction. Participants leave with both the theoretical framework and the applied confidence to use it on-site immediately.
UK & International Delivery
Our first joint course was successfully delivered in the UK, marking the beginning of a long-term collaboration dedicated to raising professional standards in utility detection. Further UK and international dates are in development.
Recently launched in the UK — our first joint CSTA Global locator training course was delivered in 2024, bringing together theory and hands-on field practice to equip participants with practical skills, best-practice methodologies, and a deeper understanding of subsurface risks in complex environments. Customised & In-House Training Programmes
Every team has different equipment, different typical project environments, and a different starting point in terms of experience and knowledge. Our bespoke training programmes are built around those specifics — not around a generic syllabus adapted at the margins. If you have a particular method, site type, regulatory framework, or application domain in mind, we design the course around it.
Tailored to Your Equipment
We design training around the specific instruments your team already uses — or are about to acquire — rather than teaching to generic equipment and leaving participants to bridge the gap themselves.
Matched to Your Projects
Course scenarios, data interpretation exercises, and reporting examples are selected to match the kinds of projects your team actually works on — infrastructure, utility, archaeology, construction, or environmental.
Aligned to Your Regulatory Framework
Where your work is governed by specific standards — PAS 128, NRSWA, Eurocodes, or sector-specific requirements — training content and documentation standards are calibrated accordingly.
Scaled to Your Team
From a half-day refresher for a single experienced operator to a multi-week programme for an entire department — format, duration, and depth are determined by what your team actually needs, not by a fixed package.
Who Should Attend
Our training programmes are appropriate across a wide range of professional roles and experience levels:
Instruction from practitioners, not instructors
The difference between training that changes how someone works and training that fills a CPD log is the instructor. Our training is delivered by practitioners who use these methods on live projects — whose interpretations carry real consequences, whose field decisions matter, and who have made and learned from the mistakes we teach participants to avoid.
- 25+ years of applied GPR and geophysical field experience Training derived from real project practice — archaeological campaigns, infrastructure surveys, defence engagements, nuclear facility inspections — across more than 30 countries.
- PhD-level methodological grounding The physics, the limitations, and the interpretation principles behind every method are taught at the same level of rigour we apply to peer-reviewed scientific work — not simplified to the point where the nuance disappears.
- CSTA Global-accredited utility locator certification For utility detection professionals who need internationally recognised credentials — Staking University certification aligned with PAS 128 and delivered through a formal partnership with one of the sector’s leading training organisations.
- Vendor-neutral across all equipment and software We do not represent any GPR or EM equipment manufacturer. Our training teaches to methods, not to products — which means participants learn how to get the best out of whatever equipment they use, rather than being trained to one platform.
- Directly connected to our consulting practice The interpretation methods we teach are the same ones we apply in our consulting work. That connection means our training is current, grounded in live practice, and informed by the specific interpretation errors we encounter most often in the field.
